Massage Therapy

Exam Information


Effective December 28, 2023,, there will be three classifications for this profession that require an exam: Massage Therapist, Massage Apprentice and Massage Assistant. The examination requirements are listed below:


Massage Therapist

Please submit official documentation of passing the Massage Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEX) administered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB).

NOTE: DOPL will accept passing scores from any of the following exams, instead of the MBLEx, if taken before February 1, 2015: National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Body Work (NCETMB); National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage (NCETM); National Examination for State Licensure (NESL).


MASSAGE APPRENTICE

To Schedule an Exam | Massage Apprentice and Massage Assistant:
  • Create an account at https://provexam.com/scheduler/ . You have the option to take this exam at most college and university testing centers in Utah and throughout the US. You also have option to test from home (See "At-Home Testing" below).
    • Once you are on the Prov site (site address above) select Self Registration. On the next screen select "UT-Healthcare" from the Certifying Body drop down menu. Then select the test option for your license classification as described above.
  • Out-of-State Testing: Contact Prov directly to make testing arrangements. The phone number is 877-228-3926.
  • At-Home Testing: You also have the option of using an on-line proctoring test platform known as Examroom. To verify your computer equipment will run Examroom, please use this system check tool prior to registering for your exam: On-Line Proctoring System Check
